The Boston Red Sox acquired Dustin May from the Los Angeles Dodgers at the trade deadline to add some depth to the rotation.

However, May suffered an injury and was on the injured list after just six appearances with the team. He didn’t pitch in the playoffs, but as the offseason has begun, May said to MassLive that he’s “fully back to normal” and his elbow feels great.

With the Red Sox, May went 1-4 with a 5.40 ERA in six games, including five starts.

Although May will get a World Series ring, given that he spent the first half of the season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the pitcher said he was more disappointed that Boston got eliminated from the playoffs.

“I played with the guys for a long time,” May said to MassLive at a red carpet event before the MLB Awards show on Friday. “They were all my boys. It was definitely very fun to watch.

“I was more sad that they (Red Sox) lost than I was more happy that they (Dodgers) won.”

Although May was injured while he was a member of the Red Sox, the right-hander was happy with his time in Boston.

“It was definitely a huge letdown,” May said. “But the guys were great to be around. I was super happy to be able to join that group. I didn’t really contribute the way that I felt like I could have, but it was a very, very fun group.”

May went 7-11 with a 4.96 ERA in 2025 between the Dodgers and Red Sox.
