The Boston Bruins have been hampered by the injury bug, resulting in the team having to call up players from the AHL.

Boston suffered a 3-1 home loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday. In the loss, the Bruins were without Charlie McAvoy, Casey Mittlestadt, Viktor Arvidsson, and Elias Lindholm due to injuries.

Due to the injuries, Boston called up Riley Tufte and Matěj Blümelfrom Providence to make their season debuts. Tufte scored the Bruins’ lone goal with 10 seconds left in the game, as the call-ups made an impact.

Following the loss, Bruins star goalie Jeremy Swayman praised the team’s next-man-up mentality.

“I thought we’ve had a great mentality of just next-man-up,” Swayman said on Monday, as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage. “Anyone who is in this lineup is going to do their job to a T. Really proud of the guys that have stepped in and played their role well.

“It is a system that works, so with guys in the right spots, it is going to work. With reps, with games, shift after shift, you are going to get more and more chemistry with each other.”

Tufte finished the game with 15:13 of ice time and a goal, while Blümel had 13:10 of ice time in the loss.

The Bruins fell to 12-9-0 following their home loss to Carolina on Monday. Boston will now head to Anaheim to play the Ducks on Wednesday.
