The Boston Red Sox have plenty of areas to improve this offseason — but they’re hoping one spot will take care of itself.

Carlos Narváez has been tremendous as the club’s primary catcher, and will presumably hold onto that role moving forward. Connor Wong seems to be headed in the opposite direction, however, having seen his numbers slip across the board in 2025 — though he expects things to change in 2026.

Wong talked about the reasons — the wrist injury that landed him on the injured list from April 8 to May 2 — in a discussion with MassLive’s Christopher Smith on Tuesday.

“I feel pretty healthy, and I knew I was going to take a little bit of time off, and that was something I wanted to take care of for the last few years,” Wong said. “I just didn’t really have the chance to (in previous offseasons), and this year I felt like I had time, so I got to take care of it.

“It was just something that was more like a nagging thing. It’s something I obviously could play through and I have in the past. It’s just something I wanted to clean up and get some more range of motion… I just want to be myself, and I know the kind of player I can be, and I’m looking forward to doing that.”

Boston will need some level of improvement from the backup catcher this season, but likely find some level of comfort in the fact that the man himself believes he’s capable.
