What to Know
- The Patriots kicked off their preseason against the Colts in a game that ended in a 13-13 tie.
- Andy Borregales missed three field goals, including a would-be game-winner in the final seconds.
- The Patriots placed Terrell Jennings on injured reserve before the game.
- Rookies Caleb Lomu, Gabe Jacas and Eli Raridon — among others — made their debuts.
- Tommy DeVito started at QB for the Patriots in the first half.
- Kyle Williams caught a TD from DeVito, the Patriots’ lone touchdown of the night.
At a certain point on Thursday night, with both the Patriots and Colts struggling mightily to generate scoring drives, a tie felt like the most fitting possible ending.
Yet with a chunk play and a free 15 penalty yards, the Patriots instead were able to quickly shoot into field goal range, appearing to at least be able to send the spirited fans in attendance home with an extra hop in their step.
Alas, second-year kicker Andy Borregales — who missed two field goals earlier in the game — hooked his would-be-game-winning kick wide left.
And with that … the Patriots and Colts had themselves a 13-13 tie.

Of course, the preseason is a far cry from the regular season, but the preseason opener is the official mark of the return of football to everybody’s lives.
