As far as trades are concerned, the August 2020 deal that sent Brandon Workman, Heath Hembree and cash considerations to the Philadelphia Phillies pales in comparison to the Boston Red Sox shocking trade of Rafael Devers.
While more of a footnote than a franchise-altering transaction, the Red Sox thought they got a nice return in the deal when they acquired right-handers Nick Pivetta and Connor Seabold.
All told, the trade proved to be a minor success for former chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom as Pivetta pitched five seasons in Boston.
The same cannot be said of Seabold, who later was traded to the Colorado Rockies in 2023. He was released by the Rockies in December 2023 and signed a minor league deal with the Tampa Bay Rays in February.
The Rays recalled Seabold on Thursday from Triple-A Durham after he previously appeared in two games for Tampa Bay this season. The 29-year-old has a record of 3-2 with a 4.91 ERA in nine games in Durham this year.
