FOXBORO — Patriots rookie wide receiver Kyle Williams is learning from the best, at least in his opinion.

Veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs has “always been” Williams’ favorite wide receiver, the rookie revealed to the media Saturday. So he described playing next to Diggs as “a blessing” and “a God gift.”

Diggs first came on Williams’ radar when the veteran wide receiver was coming out of the University of Maryland in 2015. Williams caught a highlight video of Diggs and “just kept watching it every day.”

“And now look at look at us today,” Williams said.

Williams, who was born in Baltimore but grew up in Inglewood, Calif., was just 12 years old at the time.

“I mean, he was just different,” Williams said. “You know, he was crafty. I mean, it was like something about him that just stuck out to me, and then I just gravitated towards him.”

Williams said he hasn’t tried to make Diggs feel old by telling him he was his favorite wide receiver growing up.

“Once he’s retired, then I got him,” Williams said.

There’s a nine-year age gap between Diggs, 31, and Williams, 22. The two wide receivers shared snaps in the Patriots’ first team offense on Saturday.
