The Boston Red Sox are coming down the homestretch of the 2025 campaign, and it’s clear that their main goal right now is to find their way into the playoffs. And yet, you can’t help but feel like Alex Bregman’s contract situation is continuing to linger over the team.

Bregman signed a three-year, $120 million contract with the Red Sox in free agency over the offseason, but he has a player option in his deal that allows him to opt out and test the open market again next offseason should he want to. Considering how Bregman is putting together an All-Star campaign, it seems likely that he will opt out of his deal.

Boston’s front office tried to get ahead of Bregman potentially opting out of his deal by discussing a new contract with him, but he has put those talks on pause for the time being. When explaining that decision, Bregman revealed he wants to focus solely on the Sox’s ongoing playoff push.

“I feel like for me it would be a disservice to be thinking about anything other than just winning baseball games right now,” Bregman told Joey Copponi and Scott Neville while appearing on the ITM Podcast.

“Focusing on this team, this year and trying to do anything I can to help lead this team and help get everybody prepared to play down the stretch and get into the postseason. I’m really just focused on showing up every day, competing and getting after it, trying to get back to the postseason.”

Bregman has been exactly what the Red Sox were hoping he would be when they signed him this offseason. In 79 games, Bregman is hitting .305 with 16 home runs and 52 RBI, with his batting average currently on pace to be the highest of his career.

Beyond that, Bregman has integrated himself into Boston’s culture seamlessly. He has spoken about how he and his family have loved the move to their new city, and he even has his own Boston beer now, as Alex Bregman and Sam Adams teamed up to create the Bregman Beer, which can be found at the Sam Adams Tap Room and Sam Adams Brewery.
