Nathaniel Lowe has played just two games for the Boston Red Sox, but he’s already made a great first impression.

After signing with the Red Sox on Monday, Lowe was immediately inserted into that night’s game at Fenway Park as a pinch-hitter against the Baltimore Orioles. He worked a seven-pitch walk in his first plate appearance with Boston and came around to score in the bottom of the ninth, contributing to his new team right off the bat.

The former Washington National drew his first start with the Red Sox on Tuesday, batting seventh at designated hitter. After going 0-for-3 to start the game, he came through in the clutch for Boston for the second night in a row.

With the Red Sox trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth, Romy Gonzalez led off the inning with a walk. Lowe immediately followed by drilling the first pitch he saw from Yaramil Hiraldo over the right-field bullpen for a game-tying two-run homer, sending the Fenway crowd into a frenzy.

The veteran slugger celebrated his first Boston homer (and 17th of the season) with his new teammates by putting on the Wally head in the dugout.

Unfortunately for the Red Sox, they ended up squandering Lowe’s clutch hit. They loaded the bases in the ninth and 10th innings but were unable to score, losing 4-3 in the 11th.

Lowe walked on five pitches to load the bases in the bottom of the 10th, delivering another quality at-bat in a key situation.

While Boston lost both games to the Orioles and its last three of the homestand, Lowe is already proving to be an impactful signing. He’ll try to stay hot when the Red Sox visit the Bronx later this week for a pivotal four-game series against the New York Yankees.
