Lucas Giolito goes to the hill where he’s been hot and cold of late. Over his last four starts, Giolito has two excellent outings against the Astros and Marlins, where he allowed a total of two runs over a combined 14.1 inning of work, and then two stinkers where he struggled to throw strikes and only got through 4.2 inning of work against both the Padres and the Yankees. Still, the Red Sox are 14-4 in his last 18 starts, so when Giolito is on the bump, he generally gives the team a good chance to win.

For the Orioles, Kyle Bradish makes his return from Tommy John surgery after last pitching in a major league game in June of 2024 and missing 14 months. Bradish was really dialed in before the injury, but in his first game back from such a severe injury, it’s hard to know what to expect. He’s been building up strength in the minor, throwing 38, 57, 69, 74, and 89 pitches in his last five starts, but didn’t make it through more than 5.0 innings in any of them, so we’ll have to wait and see how far he gets tonight.

Ideally, the Red Sox will quickly get into the Orioles bullpen and continue to put pressure on them, which has some extra benefits if they can repeatedly do it in a four game series where they miss Baltimore’s best pitcher in Trevor Rogers.
