Alex Bregman was one of the Boston Red Sox’s most important players in 2025. His contributions both on and off the field were consistently highlighted throughout the campaign.

Bregman has an opt-out after the season, and his performance in 2025 points towards him opting out and pursuing a long-term contract. The third baseman posted 3.5 bWAR in 114 games and was a leader in the clubhouse.

After the Red Sox were eliminated from the playoffs at the hands of the New York Yankees, Bregman spoke to the media and didn’t want to discuss his contract, but did look forward.

“The future is bright,” Bregman said. “We envisioned winning tonight and making a deep run, but proud of the fight in the room, proud of the guys. It was an honor to put on this jersey.”

Bregman hasn’t officially stated one way or another if he’ll be exercising his option to opt out. Earlier reports indicated he was likely to opt out, but he said he was open to returning.

“Of course,” Bregman said in response to a question about whether he could see himself returning next season.

If the third baseman does opt out, he’ll immediately become one of the top free agents on the market. He’s not eligible for a qualifying offer, which should increase the demand for his services. Bringing Bregman back should be the Red Sox front office’s number one priority.
