The hot stove is officially on. Sort of. On Tuesday, the Atlanta Braves signed former Boston Red Sox catcher Sandy Leon to a minor league deal, according to the transaction wire.

Leon has been with the Braves for the last two seasons, primarily in Triple-A Gwinnett. In 2025, he appeared in five games for Atlanta. He recorded one hit in twelve at-bats — a three-run home run against former Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel.

The Braves aren’t expecting much, if any, major league production. He’s veteran depth who can work with young pitchers in Triple-A and be called upon in a pinch if needed.

Drake Baldwin had an excellent rookie season as Atlanta’s catcher and should continue to handle the bulk of catching duties in 2026. The Braves also have Sean Murphy at catcher. Murphy has dealt with injury during his time in Atlanta, but was productive with the Athletics before being traded. His name will appear in trade conversations frequently throughout the offseason.

Leon spent five seasons with the Red Sox from 2015 to 2019. He backed up Christian Vazquez for the 2018 World Series-winning team, appearing in 89 games.
