The Ottawa Senators, a division rival of the Boston Bruins, will be without their captain, Brady Tkachuk, for multiple weeks due to an injury.

Senators coach Travis Green announced on Tuesday that Tkachuk will miss a significant amount of time. Tkachuk was cross-checked by Nashville Predators defenseman Roman Josi in the first period on Monday, and remained in the game.

However, he missed the final nine minutes of the game due to the injury, and on Tuesday, he was ruled out for a minimum of four weeks due to a right-hand injury.

“He’s going to miss a significant amount of time,” Green said on Tuesday. “We’ll know more in the next 24 hours. We don’t know exactly, but it’s four weeks plus. We don’t know exactly.”

Green wouldn’t rule out surgery for Tkachuk.

Although Tkachuk is out for multiple weeks, Green said the captain will be around the team and leading them from off the ice.

“It’s unfortunate,” Green said. “You don’t want to lose a player, and you don’t want to lose a player of his stature. We’re not going to dwell on it. It’s just like when anyone else gets hurt. We’re going to move on quickly. Brady will be around our team, and will be the captain that he is, but he won’t be playing.”

The Bruins will play the Senators on Oct. 27 in Ottawa. Boston plays the Senators on Nov. 6 and Nov. 13, so the Bruins could play a Tkachuk-less Ottawa team three times.
