Mookie Betts has accomplished a lot during his 12-year MLB career with the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers. The eight-time All-Star has won three World Series, an MVP and six Gold Gloves, guaranteeing himself a plaque in Cooperstown after he retires.

While he has plenty of impressive seasons on his resume, one in particular from his Red Sox tenure stands out.

“I would say ‘18 was probably the most satisfying year. Hope I can do that again,” Betts told WEEI’s Rob Bradford during Thursday’s World Series Media Day.

After Bradford asked a follow-up question, Betts explained why that year remains his favorite.

“I think just the whole year itself. The way I played, having a baby, it was a lot of things that kind of went positive that year,” Betts said.

2018 was a banner year for Betts and his teammates, so it’s easy to see why. He had his best statistical season, winning American League MVP honors after leading the Majors in WAR, batting average, slugging percentage and runs. He also earned a Gold Glove, a Silver Slugger and made the All-Star team, establishing himself as a true superstar and one of the best all-around players in baseball.

Betts’ stellar play helped Boston win a franchise record 108 games during the regular season en route to a World Series title — Betts’ first.

That star outfielder has won two more championships since then and is currently playing for another one, but he’s yet to match the heights of his splendid 2018 campaign.
