On Saturday night, for the first time in franchise history, the Boston Celtics will step on the court wearing a uniform that doesn’t feature the color green. That’s right — the Celtics will be wearing their 2025-26 City Edition gold uniforms for the first time this season when they face off against the Houston Rockets. Boston unveiled the uniforms back in September, and the immediate reaction was mixed.

While some people dug the new threads, Spotrac’s Keith Smith was famously against the uniforms with every fibre of his being.

“A Celtics jersey without green is gross,” Smith declared. “Why not add green outlines or trim at least? Another swing and miss of an alternate jersey.”

As always: Green on the road, white at home, sprinkle in the black & green set here and there.

The Celtics are hoping their green-less uniforms will help them win their fourth straight game. After starting the season 0-3, Boston’s new-look roster has jelled very quickly and suddenly look like a very solid unit.

Jaylen Brown has gotten off to a strong start to the campaign, averaging 27.7 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists so far. After some initial tinkering, Boston has already arrived at a starting lineup with noticeable chemistry: Derrick White, Payton Pritchard, Brown, Josh Minott, and Neemias Queta.

Head coach Joe Mazzulla has been clear that the starting unit will be subject to change throughout the season.
