Alex Bregman is nearing a return to the Boston Red Sox this summer. Once he’s back in the lineup, the attention could shift to his future.

Boston signed Bregman to a three-year, $120 million contract with an opt-out after the 2025 and 2026 seasons. The All-Star third baseman was positioning himself to re-enter the market by hitting .299/.385/.553 before a quad injury sidelined him in late May.

Bregman told reporters Monday that he’s leaving the door open for contract talks, per MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.

“We’re open to listening to anything that they have to say,” Bregman said.

A strong second half could position Bregman to land a lucrative multi-year contract this offseason. The 31-year-old said securing a long-term deal is “definitely a very high priority.”

Bregman sounds open to setting roots down in Boston. The former Silver Slugger and Gold Glover spoke fondly of his first year with the team.

“I expected to love playing here and I have definitely loved playing here,” Bregman said. “It’s a great place to play baseball. Being able to play for this organization is awesome.”

However, Bregman is currently busy working his way back from the injured list. He resumed baseball activities over the weekend, and Alex Cora said his star player seems “close to 100 percent.”

The Red Sox could activate Bregman shortly before or after the All-Star break. Regardless of his contract status, he’ll aim to lead Boston into the playoffs to compete for his third World Series title.

“Honestly, I’m focused on getting back on the field and helping this team win baseball games,” Bregman said. “Getting back as soon as possible, as healthy as possible and making a push to get into this race and get into the postseason.”
