There is no denying the Red Sox are absolutely in a rut. Boston is riding a five-game losing streak and sits four games under .500 at 27-31.

Despite the struggles, manager Alex Cora claims he isn’t “feeling the pressure in terms of job security.”

“No, not really,” Cora said Thursday in his weekly appearance on the WEEI afternoon show, transcribed by Tom Carroll. “You know, from my end, you know? I actually don’t ask coaches about that, you know? I just ask them to do their best on a daily basis. But I can answer that question personally — no.”

Ironically, the Red Sox have been in a lot of their games. In fact, the Sox are 6-15 in one-run games, including two against the Milwaukee Brewers this week.

“You know, I feel like every day we go out there, we’re doing our best, you know? It hasn’t happened for us,” Cora said. “You know, you look at the season and having conversations with some people this morning, it’s like, ‘Man, it’s a weird one, right?’ Because it feels like you are in every game, but it’s not going your way. So, you know, this is a tough stretch for us, for me as a manager, and we just got to be ready for tomorrow.

We got a big series coming up here in Atlanta, and hopefully we can win two out of three, or sweep it, and get this bad taste out of our mouth.”

The Red Sox currently sit 9 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees in the American League East and are 4 1/2 games out of the wild card race.

Cora is eight weeks into the three-year extension he signed with Boston in July. He led the Red Sox on a pair of deep postseason runs earlier in his tenure, winning a World Series championship in 2018.
