The New England Patriots are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2021, and they’ve drawn a primetime matchup (Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET on NBC) with Justin Herbert and the Chargers on Wild Card weekend. In a postseason edition of the Mailbag, we’re diving into keys to victory for the Patriots on Sunday, early offseason questions and much more. Let’s get to it: Editor’s Note: Questions have been lightly edited for clarity. Phil, what are the keys to the game? The way I see it: 1) Turn Harold Landry and K’Lavon Chaisson loose on LA’s offensive…

The Patriots are in the postseason for the first time in four years, and our readers have a lot on their minds. Let’s answer their questions in this week’s mailbag. @Patsfan19838268: Hi Doug – do you think Vrabel has any regret for how easy of a camp he ran given 2 of their losses were right out of the gate in September? I wouldn’t. If I were head coach Mike Vrabel, I would have zero regrets whatsoever about how he handled this season. He turned a four-win team into a 14-win team. I think the Patriots probably would have lost…

To me, the best friends to hang out with are those that, despite our commonality, are opposites of me in some ways as well. It’s a Yin and Yang thing; you bounce off and balance one another, and joined as two, you really are twice as much fun. I don’t need to name names here – you know who you are. And when we are out in the world together, I like to think our fun pairing up brings fun to all (am I right Natalie? Anne? Michelle? Petra? And more?) The same goes for ski resorts. In my view,…

Things are crazy at Ole Miss these days. So crazy, apparently, that they’re comparable to living next to Aaron Hernandez when he was arrested for murder. At least, that’s what Joe Judge said Tuesday night. Judge, who coached for the Patriots for parts of 10 seasons throughout the 2010s and early 2020s, currently works as the quarterbacks coach for Ole Miss. He and the Rebels are set to play Miami on Thursday night in a College Football Playoff semifinal matchup. However, nobody knows what Ole Miss’s coaching staff will look like Thursday night, as multiple staffers reportedly could bolt to…

Good morning! Truck Day — as overexposed as it has become in the FSG era — is often likened to Groundhog Day as a harbinger of spring. So it’s kind of wonderful that, thanks to the World Baseball Classic, Truck Day is coming early this year and will land on actual Groundhog Day, February 2. Pitchers and catchers will then report on February 10, followed by the full squad on February 15. The Sox will play their traditional tilt against Northeastern on February 20 (no Cam Schlittler this time, thankfully) and then start Grapefruit League action against the Twins on…

Bad decisions and bad penalties turned what could have been a great road trip into a so-so one in the Bruins’ trip finale in Seattle on Tuesday. The B’s dropped a 7-4 decision to the Kraken and finished the trip at 2-2-1. It was clear that the B’s, who gave up three power-play goals, did not have their thinking caps available right off the bat but it was a fateful final two minutes in the second period, when they gave up two self-inflicted goals, that did them in. Feeling like fewer mistakes would have translated to two vital points, coach…

FOXBORO, MASS. (WHDH) – It was this time a year ago that the New England Patriots were searching for their third head coach in three seasons, and by bringing back three-time Super Bowl champion Mike Vrabel, the team instantly regained credibility that would ultimately lead to 14 wins and a return to the playoffs. On December 28, 2024, the Los Angeles Chargers came into Gillette Stadium and delivered a 40-7 beatdown, a game that’s still in the front of mind for holdovers in the Patriots locker room. “It was tough man, I mean we got whooped. You know, it was…

Red Sox fans continue to be given reason to hope for Alex Bregman’s return. The star infielder remains a free agent with spring training a little over a month away. ESPN’s Buster Olney recently reported that Boston made an “aggressive” offer to re-sign Bregman, who has multiple suitors. Another positive update arrived Monday via USA TODAY’s Bob Nightengale. “The Boston Red Sox … remain the favorite for Bregman,” Nightengale wrote before doubling down. ” … The Red Sox are the favorites to bring back Bregman.” Nightengale also reported that the Toronto Blue Jays remain “engaged” in talks with Bregman and…
