FOXBORO — Patriots wide receiver Mack Hollins was a limited participant in his first practice in more than a month Thursday. Hollins has been out with an abdomen injury that still has him on injured reserve. He could be activated in time for Sunday’s AFC Championship Game if the Patriots first clear a roster spot. The Pats also added center Garrett Bradbury (illness) to their injury report. He did not participate Thursday. In Denver, running back J.K. Dobbins remained limited by a serious foot injury that until this week had him out of practice for two months. Both teams’ injury…

Heading into this season,a championship didn’t seem like a realistic goal for the Boston Celtics. Not only had they lost a ton of talent over the summer, but they were also going to be without their best player, Jayson Tatum, for most of the season. From the outside, many thought the Celtics would be lucky to make the playoffs. On the inside, however, Boston’s goals and standards never changed. Despite being shorthanded, the Celtics are still determined to go all the way this year. Just ask Neemias Queta. “Yeah, obviously — we play for the Celtics. Anything else other than…

We’re struggling to remember the last time a Sam Hauser 3-pointer touched anything but the net. It certainly didn’t happen on Wednesday night against Indiana, with all five of Hauser’s triples finding nothing but twine. Hauser nearly matched the Celtics’ single-game record for 3-pointers last Saturday in Atlanta before hilariously getting snagged on 10 makes, and misfiring on six energy-drained attempts before coach Joe Mazzulla mercifully ended his night in a lopsided win. Hauser has made 25 3-pointers in his last five games. Consider this: There are 279 players in the NBA who haven’t made 25 3-pointers all season. Yes,…

The breeze you may have felt around 9:45 p.m. might have been from some 18,000 people collectively exhaling on Causeway Street on Thursday night. After racing out to a 4-0 lead in the first two periods, off the strength of three goals in 54 seconds in the first period, the Bruins survived by their fingernails a third period push from the Vegas Golden Knights and escaped the Garden with a 4-3 victory. The Knights, thoroughly outplayed in the the opening 40 minutes, outshot the B’s 20-5 in the third period and scored three unanswered goals. But they needed to get…

Former Boston Red Sox catcher Dave Schmidt, who played for the team in 1981, died on Monday at 69 years old. Schmidt only played 15 games in his big league career, but he spent eight seasons in the Red Sox organization. The Red Sox drafted him in the second-round of the 1975 MLB June Amateur Draft from Mission Viejo High School in California. In his 15 games in the big leagues, he slashed .238/.347/.405 and hit two home runs. Even though his time in the big leagues did not last long, he was able to eventually play in The Show after…

Ranger Suárez is officially a member of the Red Sox. We found this out unofficially last week. Which started raising questions: what about the 40-man roster? Had the team flipped an outfielder or pitcher, possibly with prospects, they would have plenty of room to sign one of the remaining free agents and add that unnamed infielder. Since they did the free agent signing “first” (if there is a trade for an infielder) it meant that the Red Sox needed to open a roster spot. And they did this by trading a 40-man guy for a prospect. Not that Tristan Gray’s 47…

FOXBORO — When Jarrett Stidham throws his first pass in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game, it will be the first he’s attempted in any meaningful game since Week 18 of the 2023 season. Zak Kuhr, who will spearhead the Patriots’ defensive effort against Stidham this Sunday, said the quarterback’s years-long layoff was more the result of situation than talent. New England’s interim defensive coordinator on Thursday called Stidham a starting-caliber quarterback capable of being QB1 for multiple NFL franchises. “I don’t know if it’s so much the challenge of that he hasn’t played in a while, more than just the whole…

FOXBORO — Mike Vrabel does not believe Christian Barmore’s history of blood clots will limit him in this Sunday’s AFC Championship Game. He and his staff will, however, monitor the defensive tackle’s health while the Patriots play in the thin air of Denver’s Empower Field at Mile High. “(It’s) certainly something that we’ll have to monitor,” the Patriots head coach said before Thursday’s practice. “There are some players that we’ll have to monitor for one reason or another. But I don’t see any limitations for Christian.” Barmore’s blood clot diagnosis wiped out most of his 2024 season, limiting him to…
