Here we are again. In the ‘Groundhog Day’-esque nightmare that never ends, the Boston Red Sox have once again inexcusably lost out on a top – and very signable – free-agent target. Alex Bregman, who spoke on more than one occasion during his lone Red Sox season about how much he enjoyed being in Boston and on the team, and made it clear he would welcome a long-term extension, will instead be a Chicago Cub for most, if not the rest of his playing career. And the ‘urgent,’ ‘engaged,’ and ‘aggressive’ Red Sox are up a creek without paddle, vessel,…

Dippre, Jeremiah Webb, Marcus Bryant, Caedan Wallace and Tommy DeVito.…

Hello one and all, and happy Saturday. To those who will be in attendance: happy Fenway Fest to you and yours!I won’t be able to make it this year, sadly, as I missed the boat on ticket inventory. I gambled that the event wouldn’t sell out, and I lost. If it’s your first time, though, I can attest that I did have a good time last year in its inaugural format. Stuff like that is what you make it, though, so go out and have a blast. Are you going to Fenway Fest today? If so, keep us in the loop…

Jonathan Aspirot is making his first opportunity in the National Hockey League count. The 26-year-old defenseman, who had toiled for 297 AHL games before getting his first chance at the big time this season with the Bruins, signed a two-year extension with the B’s for an annual salary of $887,500 on Sunday. If Aspirot can continue to play like he has in his first 25 games as an NHLer, the deal is a steal for the B’s. Playing with a mix of urgency and physicality, Aspirot is plus-15 and has two goals and an assist. He has been able to…

BOSTON (AP) — Celtics star Jaylen Brown didn’t hold back while criticizing the officials during a profanity-laced postgame interview after Boston’s 100-95 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night.“I hope somebody can pull up the clips,” he said. “It’s the same s— every time we play a good team. It’s like they refuse to make the calls and they call touch calls on the other end. That’s just extremely frustrating.”He went on to say that he wants someone to watch the videos to see why he was upset.“Somebody please pull it up,” he said, standing in the locker room. “Every…

Will Campbell did more than block for Drake Maye during his rookie season. Even as the No. 4 pick, Campbell wasn’t immune to some playful hazing inside the New England Patriots’ building. Head coach Mike Vrabel tasked the left tackle with an off-field assignment, directing Campbell to address the team with a weekly weather report during Friday meetings. As detailed by NBC Sports Boston’s Phil Perry, Campbell would inform his teammates of community and player events, the lunch menu and other news along with a weather forecast. The 22-year-old eventually took a liking to Vrabel’s job. “He volunteered me,” Campbell…

It’s about time. The Patriots will host their first playoff game in seven years Sunday in a rematch with the Chargers, the last Gillette Stadium visitors during the postseason. The Pats are solid favorites, as should be expected for a home team led by the next potential MVP and a leading Coach of the Year candidate. But don’t underestimate the coach and quarterback on the other side. Justin Herbert has carried the Chargers to an 11-6 record, despite playing with a broken hand and behind the NFL’s worst pass-protecting offensive line. Jim Harbaugh has molded LA into a well-rounded, physical…

Alex Bregman is officially one-and-done in Boston. Late Saturday night news broke that the free agent third baseman had agreed to a five-year, $175 million deal with the Chicago Cubs. The Red Sox were among a group of teams that had also made an offer to Bregman, but they were ultimately outbid. Now the three-time All-Star will take his talents to the Windy City, leaving the Red Sox with a sizable void both on the field and in the clubhouse. While the Red Sox lineup as presently constructed is roughly on par with last year’s, it skews heavily left-handed and…
