The Boston Celtics have every reason to pay close attention to how the New York Knicks handle the trade deadline. The Knicks are the Celtics’ biggest rival in the Eastern Conference right now. Besides getting knocked out by New York in last year’s second round, the Celtics are also neck-and-neck with the Knicks in the standings right now. This is what makes new trade deadline intel from James L. Edwards III of The Athletic relevant. Edwards linked the Knicks to three possible additions, including feisty point guard Jose Alvarado of the New Orleans Pelicans. “New York, per league sources, has…

When the Boston Bruins made the Stanley Cup Playoffs 15 times in an 17-year span from 2007-08 through 2023-24, the foundation of their success was being a strong defensive team. Sure, having elite goaltending during much of that span helped a lot. But the Bruins were really tough to play against, and opponents had to earn every Grade A scoring chance. The B’s allowed the fewest goals and ranked No. 1 in penalty kill percentage over that 17-year run. That level of defensive dominance is no longer seen on Causeway Street. The Bruins have been one of the NHL’s 10-worst…

FOXBORO — The Patriots have talked about Chargers safety Derwin James as much or more as they’ve mentioned starting quarterback Justin Herbert in the lead-up to Sunday night’s wild-card round matchup. Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels called James “as good of a unique defensive piece that we’ve played all year.” “He’s not just one thing,” McDaniels continued. “So, he plays safety, linebacker, nickel, he blitzes, he’s down there in the front and line up in the A gaps. He’s a special player.” James, 29, is a five-time Pro Bowl selection and four-time All-Pro. He finished this season, another Pro Bowl campaign,…

A Boston Red Sox prospect possesses a vital skill that could carry him to MLB success. Payton Tolle shot up prospect lists before receiving a promotion in late August. Although he allowed 12 runs in 16 1/3 innings, the 23-year-old also showed upside with 19 strikeouts, eight in an impressive debut against the Pittsburgh Pirates. People around the league have noticed one element of Tolle’s arsenal. Tolle received the most votes for the prospect with the best fastball in an MLB Pipeline Executives Poll. Jonathan Mayo noted that Tolle and Thomas White were the only left-handed pitchers among the 14…

Last night, the Colorado Rockies signed RHP Michael Lorenzen to a one-year, $8 million deal, and while that transaction may appear totally irrelevant to the Red Sox on the surface, it does leave Boston as the only team in baseball that hasn’t spent a cent on a major league free agent so far this winter. So yeah, get your pitchforks out!But before I light up the torches and join you by getting knee deep into another article about how much of a disgrace I think it is that ownership is acting like it’s more concerned about winning the upcoming labor…
