As expected, the Boston Bruins will be without Charlie McAvoy for the foreseeable future. The Bruins defenseman underwent facial surgery and remained back in Boston as the team headed to the West Coast, head coach Marco Sturm announced Wednesday. The team did not announce a timetable for McAvoy’s return. McAvoy suffered the injury Saturday night in Montreal in the second period of the Bruins’ matchup with the Canadiens. The 27-year-old took a Noah Dobson one-timer to the face and immediately dropped to the ice as blood spurted from his mouth. McAvoy was able to fly back with the team Saturday…

BOSTON — The frigid fall breeze might have created a chilling sensation at Northeastern on  Wednesday evening, but it was a night to remember for Kim Anaya and her East Boston teammates. The freshman star sniped a late goal, while fellow Jet Isabella Munoz netted a tally herself to help lift Team Burns to a 4-1 victory over Team Nicholas at the annual Boston City League girls soccer All-Star game. “I’d say for me as a freshman that this was obviously scary going in,” said a laughing Anaya. “But I knew I had my own team from East Boston behind…

Yesterday, amidst a bunch of other decisions to solidify the 40-man roster, the Red Sox announced they had traded left-handed reliever Brennan Bernardino to the Rockies in exchange for Braiden Ward, a 26-year-old infielder/outfielder. While this looks like the right move given the needs of the team, Bernardino had been part of the organization since 2023, which was the first full season I was invested in since maybe 2013, so his name rings louder to me than maybe to most.Yeah, his most recent season wasn’t as good as some of his teammates, as evidenced by the numerous times he ended…

Major League Baseball has new three-year agreements with a trio of entertainment giants for the 2026-28 seasons, the league announced Wednesday. ESPN, NBC Universal, and Netflix are divvying up significant pieces of the pie. The renewed covenant between MLB and ESPN is particularly notable. For much of the last year it seemed they were on the precipice of uncoupling after over three decades, after the two “mutually agreed” to end their agreement last February, three years before the seven-year extension they signed in ’21 was due to expire. Now, they will be more intertwined than ever in what ESPN’s press…

The Boston Red Sox could be targeting pitching this offseason, and Jeff Passan recently revealed that New York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga is expected to be dealt. “He is extremely available, and multiple executives expect him to be traded this winter as the Mets look to overhaul their rotation,” Passan wrote on Tuesday. Senga was an All-Star in his first season in Major League Baseball. In 2023, he made 29 starts and posted a 2.89 ERA with 202 strikeouts.
