All throughout the offseason you’ll hear rumors and reports floating around that the Red Sox are involved with various players. Some are more plausible than others, and more often than not nothing comes of it. One rumor, however, caught my attention, largely because it didn’t make much sense. Throughout the winter there have been murmurs that the Red Sox have been in touch with free agent shortstop Bo Bichette, and during the Winter Meetings the two sides reportedly met over Zoom. On the surface that’s reasonable since Bichette is one of the top free agent hitters available, but with Trevor…

MIDDLETON – A two-goal, first-period rally. Six penalties to kill off. A game-tying goal in the last six minutes of regulation – twice. Scoreless overtime. There was no shortage of obstacles that Hingham and St. John’s Prep faced when the two Div. 1 juggernauts clashed in their respective boys hockey season openers Wednesday night at Essex Sports Center, trading clutch moments against adversity. Yet neither relented in the end, playing to a thrilling 4-4 tie. Both head coaches identified clear mistakes that their teams will need to correct as they each figure to contend for a title come March. They…

However, Buffalo responded strongly, scoring 28 points in the second half while limiting New England to seven. Buffalo…

If you haven’t been following Kristian Campbell down in Puerto Rico this winter, here’s a little update: in 8 games he’s hit .214 with just 3 extra base hits. Not great, Bob! But the Sox aren’t too concerned with his back-of-the-baseball-card results. They view this as an opportunity to “pressure-test” the changes he made to his swing in the second half of last season. As for his defense, he has yet to play in the field, but likely will get some work in at left field soon. (Chris Cotillo, MassLive)We know Kristian Campbell won’t be playing third base anytime soon,…

The Pittsburgh Pirates have been more open to spending this offseason than in years past; or they’re at least making it seem like it for advertisement/brand enhancement reasons. Suárez has been talked about by pundits as a Plan B or C for the Red Sox if they fail to land guys like Alex Bregman or Ketel Marte (via trade). For the Pirates, Suárez would provide some much-needed power and…
