Drake Maye paid homage to a former Patriots quarterback Sunday who had a personal impact on him. Maye rushed for a touchdown in the second quarter of their 42-13 win over the Carolina Panthers, and after crossing the goal line did the Cam Newton “Superman” celebration. Newton, of course, had the best years of his career with the Panthers. Maye is from North Carolina and grew up rooting for Newton, who later had a brief run with the Patriots before losing the starting job to Mac Jones. Maye gushed about Newton when asked about the ex-QB’s impact on his game.…

The wind was whipping this past week at McGrath Stadium, mist in the air. Surveying the scene unfolding for Bishop Feehan’s football squad was senior Kane Mankins, a bruising offensive tackle and defensive end. On the sideline stood his father Logan, a New England Patriots legend. Today, Kane is looking to carry on a family tradition. One week ago, the senior committed to Ole Miss, a dream come true. “I love playing at Feehan,” Kane Mankins said. “It’s really unique, because most of these kids, we haven’t really played with each other. Like ever. Then, we come in here, and…
NEW YORK (AP) — Aaron Judge preferred to think ahead about the Yankees’ Wild Card Series against Boston and not dwell on any of the losses that cost New York a second straight AL East title.“The games in March, April are just as important as the ones — game 162 — so nothing we can do about it now besides turn the page and get locked in on October,” the New York captain said.Despite beating the Baltimore Orioles 3-2 on Sunday to finish the season with an eight-game winning streak and a 94-68 record identical to last year’s mark, the Yankees lost…
With a number of different regulars resting—namely Alex Bregman, Carlos Narváez and Romy Gonzalez—the Red Sox looked to wrap up the regular season on a high note and hold onto the five seed in the American League. The important thing this afternoon was that the Red Sox didn’t want to have to bring out the big guns—not just the ones on the bench but the ones from the bullpen, Aroldis Chapman and Garrett Whitlock.Jose De León was called up from Worcester and, I think, blew away everyone’s expectations. Steven Matz, Zack Kelly and Greg Weissert were the only ones needed…
FOXBORO – You’re forgiven if you forgot what that looked like. The Patriots cruising into halftime with a gigantic lead. Their quarterback kicking his feet up early in the fourth quarter. A smile spreading wide across the head coach’s face, with most of the game – hell, maybe all of it – going exactly to plan. Before Sunday’s blowout of the Panthers, the Patriots hadn’t won a game like that since the last time they were a playoff team almost four years ago. That day, the Pats stomped on the remains of the Urban Meyer Jaguars, 50-10, and in doing…
The New England Patriots needed Rhamondre Stevenson to bounce back Sunday against the Panthers. In the most important way, he did. Though Stevenson rushed for just 38 yards across nine carries in a 42-13 dismantling of the Carolina Panthers, he didn’t fumble after losing a pair in the Week 3 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Stevenson showed in Week 2 against the Miami Dolphins just how pivotal he can be for the Patriots when he’s at his best and holding onto the football. But the display a week later against Pittsburgh was a reminder of just how erratic he can…

FOXBORO — For the first time since Week 17 of last season, the Patriots had their best defensive player available on Sunday. Cornerback Christian Gonzalez made his season debut in New England’s 42-13 rout of the Carolina Panthers after sitting out the first three games with a lingering hamstring injury. “It was great to get out there,” Gonzalez said postgame. “Like I talked about earlier in the week, all I do and want to do is play football, so it was fun to finally get out there, get out there in a home game. The crowd was rocking, and being…
FOXBORO — The message from Mike Vrabel and the Patriots’ coaches all week was simple. Get back to basics. Four quarters later, it was mission accomplished — and then some. “Just proud of the guys. I thought they played hard,” Pats quarterback Drake Maye said after Sunday’s 42-13 win. “We get back to our fundamentals and kind of back to establishing our identity. I felt like we did that. Probably didn’t hurt ourselves.” Maye certainly did his part, going without a turnover for the second time in four games this season. He also fired just three incompletions on 17 attempts.…
The New England Patriots have their fans feeling on top of the world after a 42-13 victory over the Carolina Panthers at Gillette Stadium on Sunday. There were plenty of positive storylines for the Pats on the day, including Stefon Diggs’s 101 receiving yards and Marcus Jones’s absurd, record-breaking performance as a punt returner. New England’s QB wasn’t too shabby, either. Drake Maye completed 14 of 17 passes for 203 yards and two touchdowns (155.6 QB rating on the day). Maye also rushed for a TD, which placed him in rarefied air alongside two of the NFL’s best current quarterbacks.…
