Welcome to the Patriots Prospect Preview, our annual series where we talk about the club’s future picks before literally anyone else! It’s Week 5 baybeeeeeeeee! The New England Patriots are riding the rollercoaster this season, following up their season-opening loss to the Las Vegas Raiders with a come-from-behind victory over the Miami Dolphins before dropping an ugly one to the Pittsburgh Steelers. It’ll be very interesting to see how they look against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, but we have some business to attend to before then… I’d keep an eye out for these nine prospects during the college football…
For the first time in four years, the Boston Red Sox will play postseason baseball. The Red Sox punched their ticket in dramatic fashion Friday night when Ceddanne Rafaela launched a triple to dead center field in the ninth inning off Detroit Tigers reliever Tommy Kahnle. Romy Gonzalez scored from first base to give Boston a walk-off 4-3 victory, which secured its spot in the playoffs. Friday’s dramatic win helped end a three-year playoff drought for the franchise, which last made the postseason in 2021. That run included a win in the AL Wild Card Game over the Yankees and…
By now, Andrew Peeke has established a pretty good identity for himself as an NHL player. He’s a tough, no-frills stay-at-home defender who can be a reliable anchor for a third pairing. But while Peeke knows who he is, that doesn’t mean the 27-year-old Bruins defenseman isn’t still looking at ways to improve his game. Peeke enjoyed a big confidence boost last spring when he, along with Jeremy Swayman and Mason Lohrei, was a member of the Team USA squad that won gold at the World Championships. He wants to build off of that. “Any time you win like that,…
Hours after the team plane touched down in Boston in the early morning hours after Thursday’s frustrating loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, Trevor Story walked into the Red Sox clubhouse to a sight not seen before in his four seasons with the club. Atop the lockers ringing the room were large plastic sheets, ready to be unfurled to protect the players’ belongings when they celebrated clinching a postseason spot. Hours later, as his players donned brand-new ‘October Baseball’ t-shirts by the dugout and prepared to soak themselves and their plastic sheeting-wrapped clubhouse in beer and champagne, manager Alex Cora…
The Boston Red Sox are headed back to the playoffs. It wasn’t an easy win, but Boston battled back from an early three-run deficit to beat the Detroit Tigers and clinch a playoff spot. Detroit took an early 3-0 lead, but the Red Sox bullpen held the Tigers to three runs and gave the Red Sox a chance to climb back in the game. The Red Sox scored one in the fourth and one in the seventh before tying the game in the eighth inning. Aroldis Chapman held the Tigers scoreless in the top of the ninth, giving the Red…
October baseball is back in Boston. Go to bed. There’s no need to watch the Astros tonight. We’re going to the playoffs. There’s magic in the Fenway greens. Kyle Harrison turned in a short start and put the Red Sox in an early 3-0 hole, but they fought back slowly and surely. Tigers starter Casey Mize shoved for six innings, but the Red Sox finally came through for a run to get him out of the game in the seventh. In the eighth, they scratched across another run thanks to a good baserunning play by Nate Eaton. In the ninth, Romy…
This year hasn’t always been easy for Ceddanne Rafaela. The Red Sox outfielder has posted respectable numbers, but when he starts chasing pitches the at bats can get ugly. Yet when Rafaela stepped to the plate with the winning run on in the bottom of the ninth and a playoff spot on the line, there’s nobody else the Red Sox would’ve rather had up. “He’s like born for the moment,” said Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman. “He always seems to find a way to come up clutch.” Rafaela came through yet again for the Red Sox, crushing a walk-off…

The Boston Red Sox are headed back to the postseason for the first time since 2021. Ceddanne Rafaela walked off the Detroit Tigers to clinch a Wild Card spot and ensure the Red Sox would be playing October baseball. It’s unclear who the team will face in the first round, but they’ll travel on Monday to begin a three-game playoff series on Tuesday. The roster is full of young players, but Red Sox manager Alex Cora has been there before. He was with the Houston Astros during their 2017 World Series run and led the Red Sox to the 2018…
