For the first time since September 2022, the Boston Red Sox have lost six games in a row. The Sox were struck out eight times, and outhit 16-4 in a 9-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night. For the third time in a week, the Red Sox pitching staff have issued eight walks in a game. The heavy usage of the bullpen has started to wear down the available pitchers, and the offense has been unable to cover for them. The Boston Bruins entered the first round of the 2025 NHL Draft on Friday night with the No. 7 overall pick and a huge need to bolster the center position in their prospect pool. They achieved that objective with the selection of Boston College star James Hagens. He played very well for the Eagles last season and tallied 37 points (11 goals, 26 assists) in 37 games. Hagens was the No. 1 rated prospect in some experts’ 2025 draft class rankings before the 2024-25 season. So how did he fall to the Bruins at No. 7? That slide can be…

“Obviously the road trip didn’t kind of go how we wanted,” Trevor Story said as he stood in the Fenway clubhouse on Friday afternoon. The Red Sox left for their longest trip of the year on a five-game winning streak, and extended it to six games in their series opener in Seattle. They went 2-6 the rest of the way, and returned home on a five-game losing streak. Yet despite how much these 40-42 Red Sox have fallen down, they maintain that good things are coming. “(We were) playing good ball, I feel like, for a sustained amount of time…

The Bruins added a major talent to their prospect pipeline on Friday night when Boston College’s James Hagens, ranked the No. 1 talent in the world before this season, fell to the Bruins at No. 7 and they selected the Long Island native, immediately making him the club’s top prospect. “I love Boston, I love the area,” Hagens told ESPN. Hagens seemed every bit as tickled that his name was called by Adam Sandler aka Happy Gilmore. “I’ll remember that forever,” beamed a smiling Hagens. There was one uncomfortable moment when the Bruins’ brass on Causeway Street, trying to interface…

The Boston Red Sox may soon get Masataka Yoshida back in the lineup. Yoshida has yet to play this season as he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery. The 31-year-old is approaching a significant step back to Boston. Red Sox manager Alex Cora disclosed before Friday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays that Yoshida could begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday. Per The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey, Yoshida said he hopes to return by the All-Star break. Per NESN’s broadcast, Yoshida explained that he underwent surgery so he could play the outfield after exclusively working as a designated hitter…

Can the Red Sox avenge a poor showing so far against the Jays this season (winning just two games out of seven so far)? Maybe, but our offense is sure going to need to come alive for that to happen. Because it’s dead. Stone-cold, dead-and-gone, in-the-ground dead. Anybody ever had a Corpse Reviver cocktail? It was invented in the Victorian era, allegedly as a means of bringing a hangover-sufferer back to life. Now I see that Corpse Reviver is also the name of a brand of health beverage involving ingredients like berries and hibiscus. Frankly, I don’t care what they…

After the longest road trip of the season, the Red Sox are back at Fenway Park on Friday to host the Toronto Blue Jays for three games. It’s Boston’s first home stand without Rafael Devers, but they’ll be without Marcelo Mayer, too. The Red Sox placed the rookie infielder on the bereavement list Friday afternoon. Nick Sogard has been recalled from Triple-A and will start at third base and bat ninth. The Red Sox returned home on a five-game losing streak after winning eight of their previous nine games. Now more than halfway through the schedule, they’re 40-42 and in…

The Red Sox have an uphill mountain to climb in the American League East. In fourth place, they’re only ahead of the Baltimore Orioles near the 2025 season’s midway point. Two years removed from a 101-win campaign, the Orioles have endured a disappointing 34-46 start. Barring a quick recovery, the Orioles seem poised to treat the trade deadline as sellers and regroup for 2026. That could mean shopping Cedric Mullins, Ryan O’Hearn, Ramon Laureano, Zach Eflin and Felix Bautista. They have another veteran salvaging some trade value after a brutal start, as The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal called Charlie Morton a…
