The Red Sox placed Marcelo Mayer on the 10-day injured list with a right wrist sprain Friday (retroactive to July 24), hours before the series opener with the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers. The severity of the injury is unclear, but there are no broken bone or hamate issues, Mayer explained in the clubhouse Friday. “It’s brutal,” the downcast rookie said. “Obviously this is not a spot I want to be in, I want to be out there playing every day, trying to help the team win. As an athlete, all we want to do is play and go out there…

Are the Boston Celtics on the verge of another roster addition? Boston waived reigning G League MVP JD Davison on Thursday, which surprised some Celtics observers, including CLNS Media’s Bobby Manning. “Surprised this happened so early before camp,” Manning wrote, before noting that another move might be on the way. “Of course, Ben Simmons interest has been reported, Charles Bassey showed out at Summer League and the #Celtics had filled 20/21 offseason roster spots,” Manning continued. “I’d be surprised if something doesn’t follow relatively soon.” Boston’s interest in Simmons was reported earlier in the week. Additional teams, including the New…

FOXBORO – The Patriots have a plan in place for defensive tackle Christian Barmore as he returns from blood clot issues that limited him to just four games last season. That’s why Barmore was limited to conditioning work Thursday in the Patriots’ second training camp practice of the summer, per a source. Barmore ran with trainers while the rest of his teammates participated in full-team drills. Barmore hasn’t suffered any setbacks, per a source, and said Thursday that he still plans on being on the field Week 1 when the Patriots face the Raiders at Gillette Stadium. “I feel really…

FOXBORO — The hot start continues. Drake Maye completed 14 of 15 passes in team drills over the Patriots’ second training camp practice Thursday, another non-padded session devoted mostly to the passing game and drills. DeMario Douglas led all pass-catchers with four receptions, trailed closely by running backs Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson who each had three. Douglas and Stefon Diggs are the only players to register multiple catches in both training camp practices. So far, in Maye’s eyes, it’s been those two and everyone else else. With the MLB Trade Deadline coming up next week, the Boston Red Sox have several pressing needs. Pitching help is their top one, but they could also use a first baseman after losing Triston Casas to a season-ending knee injury in early May. Abraham Toro and Romy González have stepped up in his absence, though Toro has cooled off after a hot start. Over his last 33 games, he’s batting .220/.306/.294 with one home run and 10 RBI. With Toro scuffling, the Red Sox could use a boost at first base. However, one of their top trade targets came off…

The tight end position has become a critical piece for many of the NFL’s best offenses. Two-tight end sets were common in 2024, and they could be even more popular in 2025 as teams across the league embrace a throwback approach. The New England Patriots could be among those teams with veterans Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper in Josh McDaniels’ offense. They ran plenty of two-tight-end sets during Thursday’s training camp practice, which caught the attention of NBC Sports Boston Patriots insider Phil Perry. After the session, Perry caught up with Henry for an exclusive Next Pats Podcast interview to…

1. When does Fenway Park get another All-Star Game? To coincide with the nation’s 250th birthday in 2026, Philadelphia will host the next All-Star Game. According to several reports, Chicago’s Wrigley Field will be the site of the 2027 MLB All-Star Game, and San Francisco has been named as a potential host in ’28, as the Bay Area is a conveniently short flight away from Los Angeles, where Dodger Stadium will host Olympic baseball that summer. MLB and the players association are currently discussing the possibility of allowing players to compete. Next up should absolutely be Fenway Park. 2029 will…

FOXBORO — Patriots training camp kicked off Wednesday, but it could be argued that “real football” won’t start until next week. NFL teams are not permitted to hold padded full-contact practices until Day 7 of training camp, so it’s difficult to gauge offensive and defensive line play before Week 2. But on paper, the Patriots’ offensive line should be much improved this season compared to last season’s struggles, when injuries and poor play caused a constant rotation across the line, where 16 different players received snaps. Of those 16 players, nine remain on the Patriots’ current roster. The Patriots selected…
