A promising Sunday afternoon didn’t end according to plan for Wilyer Abreu and the Boston Red Sox. Abreu gave the Red Sox a 2-1 lead over the Miami Marlins when a line drive fell out of right fielder Dane Myers’ glove and over the fence for an unusual home run. The outfielder also scored a key insurance run in the seventh, but he didn’t finish a game that got away from Boston. Boston removed Abreu after he appeared to limp home on an Abraham Toro sacrifice fly. The Red Sox revealed, per MassLive’s Christopher Smith and multiple reports, that they…
Marcelo Mayer’s rookie season is officially over. The 22-year-old infielder will miss the rest of the 2025 campaign due to a wrist injury that has held him out since July 23. Mayer and Boston manager Alex Cora spoke Sunday about the diagnosis, which came after he got an injection to try to come back. Ultimately, the right wrist has a tear that hadn’t improved with the injection and season-ending surgery was the only option. “As an athlete and somebody that loves this game so much, all I want to do is play and be out there every single day, especially…
Dane Myers came within a glove of making one of the most impressive catches we’ve seen at Fenway Park all season, only to instead earn himself a place on the next decade’s worth of Baseball Bloopers lowlight reels. But while the Miami Marlins outfielder’s misfortune was the Red Sox’s gain, Myers wound up redeeming himself in a big way. After bobbling Wilyer Abreu’s fourth-inning fly ball over the right field fence for a two-run home run, Myers came back to tie the game with a solo shot off Greg Weissert in the top of the ninth. Jakob Marsee followed with…
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Mark Delgado scored early in the second half and Mathieu Choinière found the net in stoppage time to lead Los Angeles FC to a 2-0 victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday night.Hugo Lloris finished with five saves for his ninth clean sheet this season for LAFC (11-6-7).Neither team scored until Delgado used an assist from newcomer Son Heung-Min in the 51st minute to score his third goal of the season. It was the first assist for Heung-Min, who was playing his second match since coming over from the English Premier League.Mathieu Choinière added an…
Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow had an important job this offseason: fix the bullpen. Red Sox fans were stoked when Breslow signed flamethrower Aroldis Chapman (who wouldn’t be?), but another bullpen addition that Breslow made flew under the radar, especially in hindsight. When Breslow snagged 37-year-old reliever Justin Wilson on a one-year, $2.25 million deal on November 14, it seemed like a small bet on an older player who might not be as good anymore. But the 2025 season has shown that this was a smart choice. On Sunday, FanSided’s Brandon Glick pointed out that Wilson should…
Since the All-Star break, Lucas Giolito has had a rocky go at things, to say the least. He was relatively successful in his last outing against the Marlins, allowing only one earned run over 6.1 IP. But overall, since mid-July, he’s struggled with both control and command more than usual, which has been a main factor in his struggles as of late.Interestingly, Giolito has had three Certifiably Bad starts since the break, two We’ll Take Those starts, and one gem of an outing against the Astros. Against the Padres, his lack of control hit an all-time high, as he allowed…
Dana White is bringing the UFC to the White House. The news first broke courtesy of Donald Trump on July 3, who announced during a speech in Iowa that the U.S. will celebrate its 250th birthday with a fight card at the residence of every U.S. president since John Adams in 1800. “We’d been texting about it all day, but none of us knew the president was going to mention it at the event in Iowa,” said White, who is UFC CEO. “Every Fourth of July, I go to my house up in Maine. So I was out there, and…
This is where the Patriots stand heading into their final week of training camp. Most of their 53-man roster — which should now include undrafted rookie darling Efton Chism III — is settled. Their starting defense hasn’t budged. Same goes for their top players at quarterback, running back, wide receiver and tight end. The Pats have three joint practices and two preseason games down, with one big question to go. What’s to be done about their offensive line? But enough about Will Campbell getting abused in pass protection over the joint practices in Minnesota. Campbell is the Patriots’ starting left…
What would an all-time Boston Red Sox lineup look like?
