For Matt Turner, a return to the New England Revolution isn’t just a matter of re-establishing himself as the U.S. men’s national team starting goalkeeper ahead of next summer’s FIFA World Cup. It’s a homecoming. And so the Revolution welcomed back Turner, the club he first joined undrafted in 2016 and represented until 2022, at his introductory press conference inside Gillette Stadium on Monday morning. Over the past three years, he’s moved across the English Premier League — from Arsenal to Nottingham Forest and on loan with Crystal Palace — and he and his wife, Ashley, have welcomed both a…

The New England Patriots will kick off their preseason action against the Washington Commanders later this week on Friday. However, that isn’t the only exciting event on the calendar for that day. Ahead of the game, the Patriots will unveil a new statue of their franchise legend Tom Brady. The decision to create Brady a statue was revealed by Robert Kraft during the retirement ceremony for Brady’s No. 12 jersey last summer. Considering how Brady led New England to six Super Bowl championships, it’s safe to say he’s a pretty popular figure in the region. With that in mind, it’s…

The Patriots are entering their third week of training camp. Let’s take another crack at a 53-man roster projection with the Patriots’ first preseason game of the summer on the horizon this week against the Commanders. QUARTERBACK (2) Drake Maye, Joshua Dobbs There’s value in keeping another quarterback with the new emergency third QB rule that allows teams to dress an extra signal-caller without making him active. And rookie Ben Wooldridge has had some decent moments in training camp. Has it been enough for a third quarterback spot? Probably not. He had a tough time in Friday night’s in-stadium scrimmage,…
Boston Celtics minority owner Steve Pagliuca said the potential deal to buy the Connecticut Sun for a record amount and move the team still needs approval from the WNBA Board of Governors.Pagliuca released a statement through his group on social media on Sunday confirming an offer had been made to buy the team and move it out of Mohegan Sun Arena, but said there were still approvals that had not been obtained from the WNBA.A person with knowledge of the sale had said Saturday that Pagliuca has reached a deal to buy the Connecticut Sun for a record $325 million…
Who knew the Red Sox could catch one of the best pitchers in baseball in an absolute meltdown? This game was defined by pitching, and Lucas Giolito made only one real mistake. After giving up a solo blast to Carlos Correa, he settled down and tossed a masterclass. The bullpen probably owes him a steak and a bottle of wine after giving them an extreme amount of relief from yesterday’s usage. On the other end, I thought Framber Valdez was going to completely shut down the Sox and it would be up to the bullpen if they could do anything.…
In less than four weeks, the Patriots will cut their 91-man roster down to 53 players. For once, they should have some hard decisions. An offseason influx of free-agent and rookie talent restocked the shelves well enough at 1 Patriot Place for Mike Vrabel to stoke real competition at several positions in training camp. The position battles at wide receiver and the offensive line have powered most of the headlines through nine practices. But in the end, the Patriots must make business decisions across the board, accounting for players’ ages, durability, salaries, performance and more at several positions. That leads…
If you called Ceddanne Rafaela the best defensive centerfielder in baseball, you wouldn’t get much argument. Among qualified centerfielders, only Pete Crow-Armstrong has more outs above average than his Boston Red Sox counterpart. Crow-Armstrong also has an additional 50 innings in the outfield because Rafaela has filled in at second base with Marcelo Mayer out due to injury. Despite making seemingly impossible catches on a regular basis, Rafaela isn’t satisfied. “If the ball isn’t out of the stadium, I have to catch it,” Rafaela said during an in-game interview on Sunday. In the first inning, Rafaela nearly chased down a…
For the past few years, facing the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros early in the second half of the season has been the beginning of the end of the Red Sox’s playoff hopes. The Red Sox looked woefully outmatched by teams built to go the distance. The shoe is finally on the other foot. Over the last two weekends, the Red Sox have taken two out of three from the Los Angeles Dodgers and swept the Houston Astros, both at Fenway Park. It’s Boston’s first sweep of the Astros since April 2013. For the third game in a row,…
