Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman will make his return on Friday at Fenway Park. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen the veteran third baseman, who went on the injured list after suffering a quad strain on May 23. The Red Sox have been eagerly awaiting his return to the lineup ever since, because… well, he’s slashing .299/.385/.553. It’ll look a bit different this time around, though. The Red Sox released their lineup for Friday’s contest with the Tampa Bay Rays, sliding the three-time All-Star into the second spot after he batted third in all 226 prior plate appearances.…

Normally any baseball team will try to get its nine best players into the starting lineup every night, but with the way the roster is currently constructed, that isn’t possible for the Red Sox right now. Following Masataka Yoshida’s activation from the 60-day injured list, the Red Sox find themselves in a peculiar spot. They have five starting-caliber outfielders with Jarren Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu, Roman Anthony and Yoshida, but between the three outfield positions and the DH, they only have four spots in the lineup to accommodate them. It doesn’t help that four of those five bat left-handed,…
MIAMI — Ask Randy Moss where he ranks among the NFL’s all-time wide receivers, and he’ll give you a fiery response. “Is that a real question?” Moss, the Hall of Famer, starts. “Are you being political or are you being real? “Because if we’re talking political, we’ll say Jerry Rice. If we’re talking real football, where I knock your ass out, it’s me.” With that kind of fire, competitiveness and determination to beat whoever or whatever is in front of him, it’s no wonder why cancer hasn’t stood much of a chance against Moss. Moss was in Miami on Friday…
Alex Bregman has fit in well with the Boston Red Sox since signing in free agency, but will he even finish the 2025 campaign with the club? Bregman’s three-year, $120 million contract includes opt-outs after the 2025 and 2026 seasons. With the MLB trade deadline looming, it’s fair to wonder whether Boston could trade the All-Star third baseman if the two sides can’t agree on an extension before July 31, rather than watch him leave for nothing in the offseason. According to WEEI’s Rob Bradford, Bregman and the Red Sox have yet to discuss a potential contract extension: Per source:…
Ahead of All-Star weekend, MLB released its top-selling jerseys of 2025 list. Two, or one and a half, Boston Red Sox players made the list, depending on how you count. San Francisco Giants designated hitter Rafael Devers ranked seventh, while Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran ranked 12th. The article, released by MLB.com, notes that Devers’ sales include both Red Sox and Giants jerseys. While it doesn’t provide a split, it’s safe to assume there was a large demand for Giants jerseys when he switched teams. It’s Jarren Duran’s first time on the list. He joins the Giants’ Jung Hoo Lee (17th), the…
Ryan Downes and Patrick Kilcoyne will meet Friday with the 117th Massachusetts Amateur Championship on the line. The pair advanced with quarterfinal and semifinal match play victories Thursday at GreatHorse in Hampden. Downes, a GreatHorse member and Longmeadow resident, is a standout player at Vanderbilt. He became the youngest winner in event history when he captured the state title two years ago at Essex Country Club at age 17. He will face Kilcoyne, a member at Woodland Golf Club. The Belmont native plays at Gettysburg College. The 36-hole championship match will begin at 7:30 a.m. Downes nipped Joseph Lenane of…
BOSTON (AP) — Ceddanne Rafaela hit a go-ahead, two-run double during a three-run seventh inning and the Boston Red Sox earned their season-high seventh straight win by beating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 on Thursday.Boston starter Walker Buehler gave up three runs off five hits, including two home runs, over six innings. Chris Murphy (1-0) and Garrett Whitlock pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth, and Aroldis Chapman struck out two in the ninth to pick up his 16th save and 1,300th strikeout.Junior Caminero hit a two-run home run and Ha-Seong Kim added a solo homer for the Rays.Tampa’s Taj Bradley…
The Red Sox offense was getting beat down by Taj Bradley and the Rays. Down two runs late, I was ready to accept defeat and move on for the rest of the series. Then the seventh inning happened. Newly acquired reliever Bryan Baker takes over for Bradley, probably to the relief of the home dugout. Trevor Story works a walk and swipes second base. Romy Gonzalez walks to set up Marcelo Mayer. The kid squibs and legs out an RBI double to left field. Two on, both in scoring position, for inarguably the hottest hitter in the Red Sox lineup…
