Good morning! The Red Sox have a new infielder. And, uh, he’s not exactly one to get all that excited about.Isiah Kiner-Falefa is a perfectly good backup to have on your team. He plays three positions in the infield and plays them all well — possibly better than anyone else currently on the Red Sox if you’re not yet convinced of Marcelo Mayer’s glove (though I am). He makes contact and doesn’t strike out much. He’s right-handed, which is important for this Red Sox team. He’s a perfectly cromulent backup, is what I’m saying. But where the worry creeps in is…
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — In the final seconds of the AFC Championship Game, with snow falling from the sky like confetti celebrating a Patriots Super Bowl berth, defensive tackle Cory Durden hugged head coach Mike Vrabel and kept repeating, “you changed my life.” Durden isn’t the only Patriots player whose fate changed this season. The Super Bowl LX-bound Patriots rescued four players from losing seasons with key signings and waiver claims. Durden is just the prime example. Cut from a Giants team that finished the 2025 season with a 4-13 record out of training camp, Durden signed with the Patriots’…
The NFL Honors were held Thursday night. In the final award presentation of the night, it was announced that Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford won the MVP over New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye in one of the closest races in history. It has since come out that Maye lost by just five points after earning 23 of the 50 first-place votes. Stafford, in comparison, received 24 of the votes, giving him a slight 366 to 361 edge in the total voting. Three voters threw away their votes. Two voted for Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, while one inexplicably…
LYNN – A strong second half propelled Lynn Classical to a 68-59 victory over Somerville on Thursday and extended its winning streak to seven games. It’s been a long stretch this week for the Greater Boston League leader Rams (14-2), playing four games in six days that included a Saturday evening matchup against former Northeastern Conference foe Swampscott before a back-to-back against Burncoat on Monday and crosstown rival Lynn English on Tuesday. Going into the matchup against the Highlanders (11-4), it seemed like fatigue was kicking in for coach Marvin Avery’s team. “We had four games this week and to…

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Mike Vrabel’s remarkable Patriots turnaround earned him his second NFL Coach of the Year award. New England’s head coach was recognized as the league’s best by the Associated Press during Thursday’s NFL Honors ceremony. Vrabel, who also won Coach of the Year with the Tennessee Titans in 2021, steered the Patriots to a 14-3 record and a berth in Super Bowl LX in his first season on the job, revitalizing the storied franchise following back-to-back 4-13 campaigns. A three-time champion during his Patriots playing career, Vrabel has a chance to become the fourth individual to win…
FOXBORO, MASS. (WHDH) – The FIFA World Cup games scheduled to kick off at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough this summer could face trouble as town officials are asking the federation to cover nearly $8 million in security costs, according to Foxborough town officials. At a select Board meeting this week, town officials said there is millions of dollars in security costs needed up front. “We’re not in a position to put forward 7.8 million dollars up front and hope to be reimbursed,” said Paige Duncan, Foxborough Town Manager.Officials said without this funding, they will not be issued a license for the…
The New England Patriots saw one of their former team leaders earn some much deserved recognition at the NFL Honors on Thursday. Chicago Bears offensive lineman Joe Thuney received the inaugural NFL Protector of the Year Award. Thuney, a four-time Super Bowl champion thanks to his stints with New England and the Kansas City Chiefs, earned the award after having perhaps the best season of his career with Chicago. Thuney ultimately beat out Denver Broncos tackle Garett Bolles and guard Quinn Meinerz, Detroit Lions tackle Penei Sewell, Miami Dolphins center Aaron Brewer and Chiefs center Creed Humphrey. The NBA trade deadline passed at 3 p.m. ET on Thursday, and the Boston Celtics were busy. Earlier in the week, they acquired Chicago Bulls center Nikola Vucevic and a second-round draft pick in exchange for guard Anfernee Simons and a second-round pick. On Thursday, the C’s traded forward Chris Boucher and a second-rounder to the Utah Jazz, sent Josh Minott the Brooklyn Nets and dealt center Xavier Tillman Sr. to the Charlotte Hornets. All of these trades have put the Celtics below the first apron and below the luxury tax line. They also have two open roster spots, giving…
