The Red Sox have a chance to sweep the New York Yankees for the first time since August of 2023, and Sunday they’ll hand the ball to Brayan Bello to try and close the deal.
Bello (2-1, 3.96) is set to take the mound for the Red Sox in Sunday’s series finale against Yankees left-hander Max Fried (9-1, 1.84). Fried has been among the best pitchers in the American League this season, but Bello is coming off back-to-back quality starts and will look to extend the club’s stretch of five straight games in which the starter has completed six innings.
Boston will load up with righties against Fried. Rob Refsnyder is once again set to lead off, with Romy Gonzalez batting third, Trevor Story in the cleanup spot, the switch-hitting Abraham Toro batting fifth and Ceddanne Rafaela, Connor Wong and Kristian Campbell going 7-8-9.
Top rookies Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer, both left-handed hitters, will each come off the bench.
