James Hagens hasn’t had much time to stop and smell the roses since being drafted by the Boston Bruins.

    It’s been a whirlwind.

Hagens, whose dreams were realized when he was taken with the No. 7 pick in the 2025 NHL Draft on Friday, spent the weekend out in California. The Bruins opened up their annual development camp on Monday, however, and making it across the country proved to be pretty difficult.

Hagens’ flights kept getting delayed, which pushed off his arrival to the first day of on-ice training and led the organization to give their new top prospect the option of whether or not he’d like to participate.

“You’d have to cut my leg off to keep me off the ice today,” Hagens said, per Ty Anderson of 98.5 The Sports Hub.

Hagens’ four-day foray into life as a member of the Black and Gold likely will be his last for a while, as the expectation is that he’ll return to play for Boston College in the fall.

The Bruins will be waiting on him with open arms for whenever the time is right, however.
