The Miami Dolphins’ season was over before it even started in 2025. A slew of preseason injuries saw Miami lose several valuable starters, and it took nearly a month for the Dolphins to get into the win column.

The Fins fired now-former general manager Chris Grier after a 2-7 start. Grier had been involved with the organization since 2000, meaning he saw all 25 years of the NFL’s longest postseason win drought.

Now, owner Stephen Ross has set set his sights on making a new hire. The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue believes New England Patriots’ vice president of player personnel, Ryan Cowden, could be the man for the job.

“Cowden, who has served as an interim general manager in Tennessee while also undergoing multiple GM interviews over the last eight seasons, has an extensive scouting and personnel executive background with the Panthers (2001-14), Titans (2016-22) and Giants (executive advisor, 2023-24),” Rodrigue wrote in an article detailing several names to watch. “Cowden, Patriots executive VP of personnel Eliot Wolf and Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel have rebuilt the flailing Patriots into a 7-2 team in less than one season together.”

Cowden and the rest of the new staff in New England have turned the organization around in mere months. New England will look to double the last two seasons’ win totals on Sunday with a win over the first-place Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
