In 2024, Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum welcomed a son into the world with his partner, English R&B singer and songwriter Ella Mai.
Tatum and Mai have kept their relationship and son mostly away from the media spotlight, which is what made it such a treat for fans when Mai opened up a bit recently about her son during an interview with TMZ.
Mai told TMZ that her decision to keep her personal life with Tatum private was mainly to keep her peace and steer clear of the negativity that comes with social media.
“I was intentional with where I went and what I posted, and I didn’t really post … at all, actually,” Mai said.

When asked half-jokingly whether her son is destined for a music or sports career, Mai had a funny response.
“Giving a little bit of both right now,” Mai said. “We might have a little singing hooper on our hands. … He might completely not wanna be anything like us, but he can hold a little note. He is young, but he can hold a little note.”
Mai’s musical talent has launched her to multiple Billboard and Grammy awards. Born in London, Mai relocated to New York at age 12 before returning to England after high school. Her passion for music, inspired by her jazz-loving mom, led her to study at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute and audition for The X Factor in 2014 as part of trio Arize.

Signed to DJ Mustard’s label, she released EPs like Time, Change, and Ready, with “Boo’d Up” becoming a breakout hit in 2018, earning her a Grammy for Best R&B Song. Her self-titled debut album followed that year.
Following the birth of her son, Mai returned to performing with the sold-out Did You Miss Me? tour across Europe and the US, including shows in London, Amsterdam, Paris, and Los Angeles. She also announced her third album, Do You Still Love Me?, slated for February 2026.
