Brad Marchand did just almost everything on Tuesday night. He laughed, he cried, he assisted, he drew a penalty, he was penalized, and he helped lift the Florida Panthers to a rather exciting 4-3 victory at TD Garden.
It was a lot.
Marchand was moved to tears during and (especially) after his tribute video in the first period, but he channeled his emotions while playing, picking up an assist (after drawing a penalty) in the opening 61 seconds of the game and adding another helper on a go-ahead goal in the third.
Marco Sturm’s team showed some fight, erasing a 2-0 deficit in the third and scoring with the goalie pulled off an offensive zone faceoff to tie the game at 3-3 with 1:31 left to play. But the Panthers stunned everyone inside the Garden with a late goal off a lucky bounce off the skate of Boston defenseman Andrew Peeke.
That part of the evening will be forgotten years down the line. But Marchand’s emotional, heartfelt response to the ovation from the fans who cheered for him from 2009-25 was a moment that will forever be locked in the memories of all who witnessed the moment.
