Senior NBA insider Chris Haynes reported on Tuesday that former Boston Celtics guard Terry Rozier is still under federal investigation for a possible gambling probe.

Rozier just completed his first full season with the Miami Heat after being acquired in a trade with the Charlotte Hornets in January 2024.

“Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier has not been cleared of any wrongdoing and remains under federal investigation on a potential gambling probe, league sources tell me,” Haynes wrote on X.

The Wall Street Journal reported in late January that Rozier was under investigation to determine whether the Louisville product altered his performance as part of an illegal sports betting scheme. It was reported at the time that “Scary Terry” hadn’t been accused of wrongdoing, but the investigation was part of a bigger probe, connected to the betting scheme involving former Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter.

The NBA issued a lifetime ban to Porter in 2024.

Boston selected Rozier with the 16th overall pick during the 2015 NBA Draft and he spent four years with the Celtics.

His best season with the team came in 2017-18, when he played in a career-high 80 games and made 16 starts. Rozier finished that year averaging 11.3 points, a career-high 4.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 25.9 minutes per contest, while posting a .395/.381/.772 shooting line.

The Ohio native finished 10th in that season’s Sixth Man of the Year voting. Rozier was even better in that year’s playoffs, starting all 19 of the team’s postseason games and averaging 16.5 points, 5.7 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 36.6 minutes on a .406/.347.821 shooting line.

It was reported last week that the Heat were actively trying to trade Rozier, but his market was “currently nonexistent.” Tuesday’s news certainly won’t help the cause.
