The New England Patriots saw one of their former team leaders earn some much deserved recognition at the NFL Honors on Thursday.

Chicago Bears offensive lineman Joe Thuney received the inaugural NFL Protector of the Year Award.

Thuney, a four-time Super Bowl champion thanks to his stints with New England and the Kansas City Chiefs, earned the award after having perhaps the best season of his career with Chicago.

Thuney ultimately beat out Denver Broncos tackle Garett Bolles and guard Quinn Meinerz, Detroit Lions tackle Penei Sewell, Miami Dolphins center Aaron Brewer and Chiefs center Creed Humphrey.
