Bello scattered three singles, walked one and struck out five before handing the ball to the bullpen, which locked down the final six outs. The performance pushed Boston past New York in the standings and underscored how far Bello has come since his early growing pains.
Maturity and preparation have fueled his growth. Once prone to visible frustration, Bello now projects calm even when calls or bounces go against him. He has strengthened his body, diversified his pitch mix and taken command of pregame meetings.
