With an overflow in the outfield and plenty of needs still glaringly obvious across the rest of the Red Sox roster, Jarren Duran is the obvious trade candidate. What’s less obvious however is his true value on the block. According to Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel, the Red Sox are starting out aiming high:
This is exactly where they should be placing the opening bid to see what type of offers Duran might fetch, but if nobody bites, the calculus becomes much more complicated. The front office is going to have to work within a budget imposed by ownership this winter, and things get very tight if they don’t land the correct return in a trade involving an outfielder.
So what do you think? How should the Red Sox value Duran in a trade? What an appropriate target? Should they crack after the New Year if nothing is done and they still haven’t filled other needs? Should they include other prospects in a deal with Duran to try and aim for a higher prize? Should a different outfielder be traded?
Talk about this and whatever else you’d like, and as always, be good to one another!
