    James Tildsley adds to storied career with third NE title

    Several of the top Massachusetts wrestlers took their talents to the CNESSPA New England Championships in Providence, R.I., over the weekend to compete with the best in the region.

    The most notable victory came in the 157-pound division as Shawsheen’s James Tildsley earned a 4-3 decision victory that helped him secure his third-career title at the New England. He also set an all-time mark with 267 career wins to make the New England Wrestling Hall of Fame.

    In the 113-pound division, Franklin’s John Woodall secured an 11-1 major decision victory over Greater Lowell’s Antoine Jackman…In the 126-pound division, Tewksbury’s Nicky Desisto claimed a 10-3 decision victory…In the 175-pound division, Sharon’s Cyrus Jones picked up a takedown victory in the first period…In the 190-pound division, St. John Prep’s Sam Josey secured a 4-3 decision victory…In the 215-pound division, Haverhill’s Matt Harrold defeated Somerset-Berkley’s Owen Pavao via a 7-3 decision.

    MIAA finalists in their respective weight classes included Central Catholic’s Sam Winship (106), Luke Copper (120) and Brian Waller-Reitano (285). Other finalists were Minnechaug’s Kai Ly (138) and St. John’s Prep’s James Lally (144).

    On the girls’ side, Newton North’s Madeline Ngo earned a 7-0 finish in the third period over Salem’s Alexia Coleman in the 132-pound division and Framingham’s Adriana DeGroat secured a 7-0 finish in the first period of the 138-pound division,

    Other finalists included Lawrence’s Hannah MacDonals (235), Sharon’s Elsa Scott (107), Bridgewater-Raynham’s Kennedie Davis (114) and Nmachukwu Okoli (152), Bristol Aggie’s Hannah Dyckman (120) and Woburn’s Caitlin Castoldi (126).

    Boys Hockey

    Seven different players found the scoresheet while Mason Raycroft pitched a shutout in Cushing’s 7-0 victory over Brunswick in the NEPSAC Large Championship Game.

    Girls Hockey

    In the NEPSAC Dorothy Howard Small Championship, Caroline Matusovich scored off an assist from Angelina Che as Groton blanked New Hampton 1-0.

    Maria Grey earned MVP honors with a tally and an assist as Exeter doubled up Choate 4-2 in the NEPSAC Patsy Odden Large Championship.

    In the NEPSAC Chuck Vernon Elite Championship, Lindsay Stepnowski scored twice as Loomis Chaffee upended Deerfield 5-1.
