    What to Know

    • The Celtics have opened the season 0-2 for the first time since the 2021-22 campaign.
    • Boston trailed 64-44 at the half after being outscored by 28 points in the second quarter.
    • Jalen Brunson led all scorers with 31 points on 50 percent from the field (10-for-20).
    • Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 23 points on 50 percent from the field (9-for-18).
    • The C’s return to action against the Pistons on Sunday afternoon.

The Celtics tried to make it interesting, but ultimately a second-quarter surge from the Knicks was too much to overcome in a 105-95 loss at Madison Square Garden.

Boston was hindered by defensive rebounding struggles as New York exploited the group’s weakness. With Karl-Anthony Towns (six offensive rebounds) leading the way, the Knicks took advantage of their size inside and finished with 21 second-chance points on 21 offensive rebounds.

The C’s also allowed 23 points off 16 turnovers, the vast majority of which occurred in the second quarter when the hosts outscored the visitors 42-14 in the 12-minute period. Boston’s minus-28 point differential represents the fourth-worst single-quarter margin in franchise history.
