    Leah Carlson found the back of the net in double overtime to lift No. 9 Medfield (14-8) to a thrilling 3-2 win over No. 8 Nauset/Monomoy in Div. 2 girls hockey second-round action.

    Elsewhere, Maddie Cantor scored a goal and dished an assist for No. 10 Norwell/Scituate/Abington (13-6-3) in a 2-0 shutout of No. 7 Dennis-Yarmouth.

    Emily Kazmierczak buried a short-handed goal in double overtime for No. 3 Algonquin (22-1-0) to stave off an upset bid and beat No. 14 Malden Catholic 2-1 in the Div. 1 second round.

    Maggie Ash (two goals) led five different scorers No. 1 Westwood used to support Jennifer Lin’s 12th shutout of the year, rolling past No. 17 Martha’s Vineyard 6-0 in Div. 2 second-round play.

    Boys hockey

    Gavin Powderly netted the winning goal with two minutes remaining in the third period to give third-seeded Falmouth a 4-3 win over No. 14 Whitman-Hanson in a Div. 2 second round tilt. … KJ Andriolo scored a goal and supplied an assist as second-seeded Tewksbury (20-1-1) beat No. 15 North Attleboro 5-0. … Michael Jones scored twice for No. 7 Milton, helping it edge No. 10 King Philip 3-2.

    Jack Hodgin fired in the overtime winner for No. 11 North Reading, completing a comeback 2-1 win over No. 6 Norwell in Div. 4 second-round action. … Matt Sylvia scored two goals and an assist, Will Canada added two more to lead No. 9 St. Bernard’s to a 4-1 victory over No. 8 Sandwich. … Shortly after the team had a goal waved off, Thomas Lamb’s goal with 6:27 left gave No. 3 Dover-Sherborn/Weston a lead it wouldn’t surrender to beat No. 14 Medway, 2-1. It was the third meeting this year between the two Tri-Valley League foes.

    George Ramsey was perfect in net for No. 7 Pope Francis, pairing with a well-balanced scoring effort to beat No. 10 St. Mary’s of Lynn 4-0 in Div. 1 second-round play. The Spartans kept it a 2-0 game until an empty-netter and another late goal sealed it.

    Boys basketball

    Thomas Behrmann dropped 32 points, while Owen Armstrong chipped in with 16 points as No. 8 Medfield (18-3), which tightened up defensively to give up 19 second-half points, pulled away in the fourth quarter and earned a 66-46 Div. 3 first round win over No. 25 Dedham.

    Ulices Diaz (17 points, 16 rebounds), Giovanni Jean (16 points, six rebounds, five assists), Xavier Rodriguez (13 points, five rebounds) and Andy Batista (10 points, five rebounds) all broke into double figures for No. 7 Lynn Tech (14-7) during a 77-40 Div. 4 first-round victory over No. 26 Amesbury.

    Girls basketball

    Dylan Hurley (17 points), Leah Daley (14 points) and Maliah Pierre (11 points) paced second-seeded Whitman-Hanson (20-2) in a 61-35 Div. 2 first-round win over No. 31 Dartmouth. … Abby Broderick tallied 23 points and six rebounds, while Naya Annigeri contributed 17 points and six steals as top-seeded Medfield (21-0) cruised to a 72-20 victory over No. 32 Canton.
