FOXBORO — Carlton Davis’s stay on the Patriots’ non-football injury list will only be temporary.
Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said he expects the cornerback — a key offseason addition — to practice Wednesday for the first day of training camp. Linebacker Jahlani Tavai and undrafted wide receiver Jeremiah Webb are also expected to be taken off of the physically unable to perform and NFI lists, respectively, by Wednesday.
“There’s two lists that we’re working with now as it relates to the roster: the PUP list, which would be [tight end Austin] Hooper, [wide receiver Mack] Hollins, [offensive tackle] Vederian Lowe, and [linebacker Jahlani] Tavai. I would expect Tavai back out there tomorrow. Those other three probably will be sometime after that. The NFI list, which would be Davis, [safety Josh] Minkins, and Webb. I would expect Davis and Webb back out there with us tomorrow, and then Minkins maybe a few more days.”
Tavai suffered a calf injury early in the spring practice sessions. Davis is dealing with something undisclosed but missed most of the Patriots’ OTAs and minicamp.
That’s all good news on the injury front for the Patriots. Wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who’s returning from a torn ACL, avoided the PUP and NFI lists.
