MLB Analyst Makes Bold Winter Meetings Prediction For Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox have already had an active offseason, trading for starting pitchers Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo in recent weeks.

However, their winter could get even busier at the Winter Meetings in Orlando this week.

After addressing their starting rotation, the Red Sox will likely pivot to their lineup, which could use a big bat or two.

While Boston is expected to pursue upgrades at both corner infield spots, former Red Sox player and current MLB Network analyst Cliff Floyd believes his former team will sign a big-name middle infielder in Bo Bichette.

“I’m going with him going to the Boston Red Sox to play second base,” Floyd said on Sunday’s episode of MLB Tonight. “When you look at what Bo Bichette can bring to that team, in Fenway…He can hit the ball all over the place, play a really good second base and is healthy. That’s my Bo prediction, him going to the Red Sox.”

Boston already has a promising second baseman in Marcelo Mayer, but he may need to move to third base if Alex Bregman signs elsewhere in free agency.

If that happens, Bichette would make a lot of sense for the Red Sox. He’s only 27, bats right-handed, puts the ball in play and is an elite hitter, making him a great fit for Fenway Park. Boston’s also familiar with him after watching him play for the Toronto Blue Jays for seven seasons.

While he’s mostly played shortstop throughout his career, Bichette manned second base for the Blue Jays in the World Series, so he might be willing to do so going forward.

Toronto is considered the favorite to re-sign Bichette, but perhaps the Red Sox will try to poach him from the defending American League champs this offseason.
