Statistically, New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has taken a major step forward since last season. Through three games, Maye is fifth in the NFL in passing yards (785) and tied for seventh in touchdowns (5).

Digging deeper, the game appears to have slowed down for Maye, too. In 2024, his passer rating against the blitz was 70. Through three weeks in 2025, it’s up to 119.4. Against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3, he frequently got the ball out quickly, knowing who to target before the snap.

Despite the strong individual statistics, the Patriots are 1-2. While the improvement from Maye is an encouraging sign, he’s more concerned with the final score.

“Winning matters to me,” Maye said.

The Patriots lost games to the Las Vegas Raiders and the Steelers. The New England offense stalled out in the second half of the Week 1 game, while turnovers killed drives in Week 3. Despite this, the Patriots only lost by one score in each game. Wide receiver Stefon Diggs remarked on how close the team is to being undefeated. Maye shared a similar sentiment.

“I still feel like we haven’t played our best football. That’s what’s promising,” Maye said.

The Patriots host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Carolina sits at 1-2 after dominating the Atlanta Falcons last week. The Patriots are favored by 5.5 points in Vegas, but they’ll need to play a more complete game to get back to .500.
