The Patriots waived guard Layden Robinson with an injury designation on Sunday.

Robinson, a 2024 fourth-round pick, will go to injured reserve if he passes through waivers. If the Patriots elect to keep him, then his season is over. The Patriots do have the option to release him off of injured reserve if he does pass through waivers.

Robinson, who was selected out of Texas A&M, started 11 games last season, splitting his time between left guard and right guard. He was a favorite of former Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo, who said Robinson had the chance to be a “special player” in the NFL.

Robinson fell down the depth chart this summer behind players like Jared Wilson and Ben Brown.

Of the Patriots’ eight-man 2024 draft class, only four players currently remain on the 90-man roster: quarterback Drake Maye, wide receivers Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker and guard Caedan Wallace, though Polk is expected to land on injured reserve after undergoing shoulder surgery.

Baker and Wallace both are roster bubble players. The Patriots already traded quarterback Joe Milton, a sixth-round pick to the Cowboys, placed cornerback Marcellas Dial (torn ACL), a sixth-round pick, on injured reserve and waived tight end Jaheim Bell, a seventh-rounder.
