Walker Buehler has reportedly landed on his feet.

The former Red Sox starting pitcher, who was released by the club earlier this week, has reportedly signed a deal with the Philadelphia Phillies.

The new deal, which was reported by Matt Gelb of The Athletic and others, comes just in time for Buehler to be eligible to pitch in the postseason.

The Phillies have agreed to terms on a deal with veteran righty Walker Buehler, pending a physical, sources said. They’ll see what he has in September. News: https://t.co/2hFiIYL466

Buehler originally signed with the Red Sox this past offseason on a one-year, $21.05 million deal but was never able to find his rhythm in Boston. The two-time All-Star struggled with his consistency and posted a 5.45 ERA in 23 outings with the club.

Buehler was moved to the bullpen after his final start on Aug. 19, during which he allowed two runs over four-plus innings while walking four in the club’s eventual 4-3 loss to the Orioles, and he made one subsequent relief appearance afterwards during Boston’s recent series in New York.

Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said the club had hoped to build Buehler up into a high-leverage reliever, but things changed after Richard Fitts went down with an injury and the club needed another starting pitcher. At that point the decision was made to part ways with Buehler, and the club opted to release him in hopes of giving him enough time to latch on with a new team.

Despite his struggles, Buehler has a strong track record in the postseason and could still fortify a Phillies rotation that recently lost ace Zack Wheeler for the season due to thoracic outlet syndrome. The Phillies are currently first in the NL East and entered Sunday with a six game lead over the New York Mets.
