The Boston Red Sox received some brutal news prior to Saturday’s loss to the San Francisco Giants.

Kutter Crawford has been shut down once again, according to manager Alex Cora.

Crawford, 29, hasn’t pitched in a game this season due to knee and wrist issues, and was sent back to square one after tossing his second bullpen session of the week Friday. The Red Sox will send the right-hander from Fort Myers, Fla. — where he was rehabbing — back to Boston for further testing in the coming days.

“He wasn’t able to generate velocity,” Cora said Saturday, per ESPN’s Jesse Rogers. “That’s a concern. We’ll know more next week.”

Crawford made more starts than anyone in baseball in 2024, but was never able to get out of the starting gates this season due to persistent knee issues that plagued him over the course of the offseason. It’ll now be an even longer layoff than the veteran was hoping.
