What if I told you Trevor Story is running his way into baseball history.

During Tuesday night’s game against the Athletics, the Red Sox shortstop tallied two stolen bases in the first five innings, making him a perfect 30 for 30 on stolen base attempts this season.

In doing so Story joined an exclusive club and now has a chance to set MLB history.

According to the Red Sox, Story is the fourth player in the expansion era to be successful on their first 30 stolen base attempts in a season. The other three were Trea Turner in 2023 (30), Carl Crawford in 2009 (30) and Vince Coleman in 1989 (44).

Of those three, Turner was the only one to finish the season without being caught. His 30 for 30 stands as the MLB record for most successful attempts in a season without being thrown out, and if Story finishes the year without being caught, he would either tie that record or break it with at least one more successful steal.

The 30th stolen base is the latest milestone in what has been a remarkable comeback season for Story.

After his first three years in Boston were marred by injury, Story has been among the club’s most valuable all-around players this season. The veteran shortstop also has 24 home runs, making him one of four players in Red Sox history to record a 20-30 season alongside Jarren Duran (2024), Mookie Betts (2018) and Jacoby Ellsbury (2011).
