Hours after being activated from the injured list, Red Sox starting pitcher Hunter Dobbins appears to be hurt again.
Dobbins was removed from Friday’s game in the top of the second after suffering an apparent right knee injury while covering first base on a groundout. Dobbins stepped on the bag awkwardly and immediately began limping, and after visibly grimacing in pain following a test pitch was pulled from the game.
The Red Sox announced shortly afterwards that Dobbins was dealing with “right knee pain.”
Dobbins had only recorded five outs at the time of the injury, at which point the Tampa Bay Rays led 1-0. Following a lengthy injury delay, right-hander Jorge Alcala came on to finish the inning.
Dobbins’ injury came on the same day he was activated from the 15-day IL after missing 18 games with a right elbow strain. Prior to that the rookie had gone 4-1 with a 4.10 ERA through his first 12 career games, emerging as crucial rotation depth in the process.
